What's New in the UP Stairlift: A Chairlift Designed for Singapore Homes

Your stairs, your home, your independence — and looking stylish!

In short: the new UP Stairlift is a premium stairlift — also known as a chairlift or staircase lift — made in the Netherlands and available in Singapore through Swee Hin. It fits straight, curved, narrow and spiral staircases. Installation usually takes a single day with no renovation works. Every unit comes with an automatic swivel seat, powered footrest and built-in intercom as standard.

For years, the staircase is just part of home. You take it a dozen times a day without a second thought. Then one day it starts to feel different. A slip on the last step. Knees that ache by evening. A moment of hesitation at the top before heading down.

Most of us put off doing anything about it. And honestly, it is easy to see why. The word “stairlift” — or “chairlift”, as many Singaporeans call it — tends to bring to mind something clunky and clinical. A piece of medical equipment bolted onto the staircase you spent years making your own.

The new UP Stairlift was designed to change that picture completely. It is a home mobility solution you will actually be happy to look at.

A stairlift that looks like it belongs in your home

The latest “Next Level” UP Stairlift, made in the Netherlands, starts with the chair — because that is what you see every day. The seat is wrapped in a luxurious leather-look upholstery with hand-stitched diamond quilting, closer to a designer armchair than a mobility aid.

It comes in four colours chosen to sit comfortably in a modern Singapore home:

  • Sand — soft and light, ideal for bright, airy interiors
  • Brown — warm and understated
  • Cognac — a rich, classic tan that pairs beautifully with timber stairs
  • Anthracite — a sleek charcoal for contemporary, darker palettes

The new chair also has a deeper seat, so you sit back in it rather than perch on it. The ride feels relaxed and secure from the first step to the last.

Small details that make this chairlift easy to live with

A good chairlift is not just about getting up and down. It is about how easy every part of the journey feels. The UP Stairlift has been thought through down to the smallest movement.

Getting on and off, safely

At the top and bottom of the stairs, the seat and footrest automatically swivel away from the staircase. You step on and off facing solid floor, not the drop of the stairs. When you are done, the chair returns to its parking position on its own.

No more bending down

Lower the armrests and the footrest unfolds by itself. Raise them and it folds away again. There is no need to reach down to your feet, which is a real relief for anyone with back or knee pain.

Simple to drive

Most people use the joystick on the armrest — a gentle push left or right and you are on your way. No rows of buttons, no stiff levers.

Call it to where you are

If you share the stairlift with a spouse or family member, it will sometimes be parked on the wrong floor. A remote control, or the UP app on your smartphone or tablet, brings it to you or sends it back.

Out of the way when not in use

The armrests, seat and footrest all fold up, and the low-mounted rail leaves the stairs clear for everyone else in the household. With the chair folded, the lift extends only about 18 cm from the wall.

An optional key switch means only someone with the key tag can start it, handy if grandchildren visit.

A staircase lift made to fit your stairs, not the other way round

Singapore homes come with every kind of staircase — the straight flight in a terrace house, the tight turn in an HDB maisonette, the steep stairs of a shophouse, or a feature spiral in a newer landed home. The UP Stairlift is a staircase lift built around a clever modular aluminium rail, shaped on site to follow your stairs exactly. That is why it can handle narrow, wide, steep (up to 75°) and even spiral staircases.

Because the rail is shaped on site rather than custom-built overseas, there is no long wait for parts. The installation itself is typically completed in a single day, with no hacking, no structural work and no messy renovation.

You also get a say in how the stairlift finishes at the top and bottom of the stairs:

  • Hinge railIf there is a door or walkway at the foot of the stairs, the end of the rail folds up automatically so it never blocks the way.
  • Dropnose endingThe rail dips down neatly at the end, keeping the footprint to a minimum.
  • Horizontal endingThe chair parks a little further from the stairs, giving you more room to get on and off.
  • 90° or 180° parking curveThe chair tucks around the corner or alongside the stairs, completely out of sight when not in use.

If you would rather protect your steps, the straight model can also be fitted with clamp supports, so no screws go into your stair treads.

Peace of mind for you and your family

For many families, the biggest worry is not the stairs themselves — it is what happens if something goes wrong when no one else is home. The UP Stairlift answers that in a few thoughtful ways.

Built-in intercomIf the lift ever stops unexpectedly, you can call a pre-set family member or your service provider straight from the seat. No need to get up or hunt for your phone.
Remote diagnosticsThe stairlift connects to your home WiFi, so our technicians can check it remotely. Many issues can be sorted out without a visit, and when a visit is needed, it is usually shorter.
Seatbelt interlockThe lift will not move until the seatbelt is fastened, a simple safeguard for every trip.
Battery poweredThe lift runs on rechargeable batteries, so it keeps working through a short power cut.

The award-winning UP Stairlift is certified to European, American and Canadian safety standards. The intercom, automatic swivel seat and powered footrest come as standard on every unit, not as costly add-ons.

A smart home mobility investment that moves with you

The UP Stairlift is designed to last and to be reused. Its rail is made from recycled aluminium, produced largely with hydro power, and remains 100% recyclable at the end of its life.

More practically for homeowners, the modular rail can be reshaped. If you move house, the rail and chair can be adapted and reinstalled on your new staircase. It is a purchase that keeps its value, rather than one you leave behind.

Frequently asked questions

Is a chairlift the same as a stairlift?

Yes. In Singapore, “chairlift”, “stairlift”, “staircase lift” and “chair lift for stairs” usually mean the same thing: a seat that travels along a rail fixed to your stairs. If the user needs to stay in a wheelchair, a home lift is usually the better choice, and Swee Hin can advise on both.

Can the UP Stairlift be installed in an HDB maisonette?

The UP Stairlift is often a good fit for the internal staircases in HDB maisonettes and executive maisonettes, as well as terrace houses, semi-detached homes and shophouses. Every staircase is different, so we confirm suitability during a free site assessment.

Can a stairlift really be installed in one day?

Usually, yes. Because the UP Stairlift’s modular rail is shaped on site, there is no waiting for parts to be made overseas. Once your staircase has been measured, our team typically completes the installation in a single day.

How much weight can the UP Stairlift carry?

The UP Stairlift is rated for users up to 125 kg.

How much does a stairlift cost in Singapore?

The price depends on your staircase: its length, the number of bends, and the parking option you choose. A curved stairlift costs more than a straight one. After a free home assessment, we will give you a clear quotation based on your stairs.

The stairs should never be the reason you stop enjoying every level of your home. With its elegant design, thoughtful everyday features and quick, clean installation, the new UP Stairlift makes staying independent at home simple — and beautiful.
